Nemera expands its systemic intranasal drug delivery portfolio with DuoSpray

Nemera has launched DuoSpray, a bidose nasal spray platform designed to support the development of drug-device combination products for systemic drug administration. The new platform extends Nemera’s existing intranasal offering and targets applications where rapid, needle-free administration can be particularly relevant.
Intranasal delivery is attracting increasing interest as an alternative route for systemic therapies. By avoiding injections and enabling self-administration, nasal delivery can offer a non-invasive approach while supporting rapid onset of action. For pharmaceutical companies, however, translating this potential into a commercially viable product requires alignment between the drug formulation, device, manufacturing process and regulatory pathway.
DuoSpray forms the bidose component of Nemera’s broader platform strategy. While the existing UniSpray platform is designed for unidose applications, including life-saving and crisis-use scenarios, DuoSpray delivers two metered doses within a single device and is positioned for acute therapies. The platforms can accommodate different requirements depending on drug volume, posology, intended use and product development strategy.
From a development perspective, the device is designed around compatibility with industry-standard primary containers and conventional filling lines. DuoSpray delivers a total of 200 µL through two 100 µL metered doses and includes a visual dose indicator. The platform also provides a broad labelling surface and can be customised according to product-specific requirements.
This focus on integration is significant for combination product development. Compatibility with established filling infrastructure can help reduce the changes required during industrialisation, while Nemera’s supporting capabilities in usability, spray performance testing, in vitro bioequivalence and regulatory support are intended to address development and regulatory risks across the product lifecycle.
The wider evolution of drug delivery is also putting greater emphasis on this integrated approach, bringing device design, formulation, manufacturing and regulatory considerations closer together.
