Abstract

The pharmaceutical industry is highly committed to advancing sustainability strategies while maintaining the highest standards of product protection, regulatory compliance, and patient safety. Packaging plays an important role in ensuring medicines remain safe, effective, and accessible to patients worldwide.

As sustainability gains momentum across the industry, companies are looking for solutions that lower environmental impact while continuing to meet strict regulatory and safety requirements. Among these efforts, there is a growing focus on packaging alternatives that align with corporate commitments and evolving industry expectations. Liveo Research is actively driving this transformation through sustainable packaging solutions and strategic collaborations.

In 2024, the Liveo Research One-Material Blister (OMB™) based on PET became the first solution of its kind to reach the market, launched in partnership with Bayer, marking a significant milestone for sustainable pharmaceutical packaging. Building on this achievement, Liveo Research is now extending the OMB™ concept toward new barrier alternatives, laying the foundation for mid- to high-barrier blister platforms.

Leveraging years of close collaboration with IMA, Liveo Research is advancing established blister solutions and next-generation alternatives for industrial-scale implementation; as a global leader in blister packaging machinery, IMA brings critical expertise in processability, machine compatibility, and scalable production, enabling early validation of new material concepts under real manufacturing conditions.
