Abstract

Reducing inspection variability and preventing false rejects, often hidden drivers of unnecessary product loss is critical to sustaining quality and profitability in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Manual Visual Inspection (MVI) provides valuable human judgment but is vulnerable to inconsistency, while Automated Visual Inspection (AVI) delivers speed and repeatability yet can drift over time or become overly sensitive, leading to excessive rejects. Validated test sets create the essential foundation for optimizing both methods.

By standardizing performance expectations, they ensure regulatory alignment and confirm that MVI and AVI systems detect defects accurately and consistently. Building on this validated baseline, emerging Robotic and advanced inspection technologies can intelligently re‑evaluate and recover product incorrectly rejected during primary inspection.

Together, validated testing, automation, and robotics establish a more reliable, efficient, and waste‑reducing inspection ecosystem—boosting quality assurance while preserving product that would otherwise be lost.
