Abstract
The transition toward fully recyclable pharmaceutical blister packaging has accelerated in response to the forthcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which places stricter requirements on designforrecycling, material reduction, and circularity.
This presentation will cover next-generation recyclable polymer structures for blister formats, with a primary focus on patented polyester and polypropylene technology that provide future-proof solutions for primary pharmaceutical packaging.
The talk will also remind the audience about the status of PPWR and the requirements for the pharma industry. Although primary pharmaceutical packaging is exempt from PPWR requirements on recyclability and minimum recycledcontent when necessary to preserve product quality, it is not exempt from the regulation’s mandatory minimization obligation, meaning material and weightreduction principles still apply to these packs.
Finally this presentation will invite stakeholders across the pharmaceutical and materials value chain to collaborate in accelerating the development, validation, and implementation of nextgeneration recyclable blister solutions that meet both regulatory obligations and industry performance needs.
