Abstract

For decades, the material selection for blister packaging of oral solid dose systems was quite static. In recent years new and more sustainable systems have emerged and some paradigms in the industry are about to change.

In the presentation Südpack and AstraZeneca show the challenges and the answers how to overcome these challenges. In the presentation the speakers will share insights about the strategy towards sustainability in pharma packaging.

Then, Borouge International will present "Sustainable Healthcare Solutions through eco-efficient design". With more than 25 years of experience in supplying polyolefins for medical and pharmaceutical packaging through the Bormed™ concept, the company supports the industry’s transition driven by evolving regulations such as the PPWR and increasing recyclability requirements. In this context, Borouge focuses on mono-material solutions, particularly recyclable polypropylene free of substances of concern, already widely used in medical packaging. A key example is mono-PP blister packs, a proven solution for over 30 years, now further developed to meet mid-barrier requirements through a new generation designed and tested in collaboration with Novartis.
