- Dr Mélanie Abonnenc is the Head of GMP Cell Therapy Production unit at the Centre of Experimental Therapeutics within the Department of Innovation and Clinical Research at CHUV hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland. She holds a PhD in BioAnalytical Chemistry from EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) and brings extensive expertise in cellular therapies, blood transfusion, analytical sciences, and clinical research. In her role, she leads GMP manufacturing for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) supporting Phase I clinical trials, managing a multidisciplinary team and ensuring regulatory compliance. She drives technology transfer, process optimization, aseptic validation, and cleanroom and equipment qualification. She has significant experience in regulatory inspections, including Swissmedic, as well as certification processes for cell therapy activities. Beyond her operational responsibilities, she is also engaged in innovation, teaching ATMP regulatory aspects, and mentoring students in advanced therapies.
